“Happy New Year and may favour, wisdom, strength and peace guide and guard you.” – Liz

We are 7 days in to the New Year. How’s it going so far? Each new¬†day is a golden chance to Begin Again. Given a new start, new beginning, and a new chapter, what would you like to fill the story of your life with? Think about that for a second. Make it good! You deserve nothing less. Let’s stop playing it safe and small. This is your year. Step into your greatness.

And I’d like to quote my baby sis and wish you all a “Happy New Year and may favour, wisdom, strength and peace guide and guard you.”

Love, Mish

Rest and Reflect: What is Your Word for 2016? It Matters, because You Do.

As the year is powering down to an end, 9 more days to be exact, do yourself a favour. Take a moment to hug this question to sleep and in your waking hours: What is YOUR WORD for 2016?

If you could begin a new life story with just one word, what would it be?

In 2014, I invited you to think about your word for 2015. A few of my friends took up the invitation. They picked their word, grew with it, as I did with mine. And on Sunday, my friend Mel shared with me her story.

She said, “I’m so happy. My word is Bold. I can see how I became bolder this year, and happier, too. This is why I want to spend the next 11 days (her precious end year leave) thinking about my word for 2016…”

I was so happy to hear that. And I believe her experience is possible for anyone willing to make time to rest and reflect on their word.

My word for 2015 was Grace. It turned out to be a fitting word, as it has been a massively challenging year. I found myself thrown into a lot of messy situations that required Grace, and learning what Grace means.

Thankfully, I get to experience¬†Grace over and over again, as much as I need to learn what Grace is all about. And I can only hope to show the same measure of Grace I’ve been shown in my life. It’s not easy, but the hope is in the trying.¬†And I know I will spend a lifetime learning what Grace means, even as I continue to grow in it, through it, and with it.

The good news is, every word you pick for one year, comes with you into the next. It continues to be a part of you, if you let it. It’s just parked under your new word. You¬†will find yourself growing more and more into your word/s, or rather, the word grows more and more into you.

You and your word will become one. You live it in your life, until it becomes you.

So, if you’re ready to level up (shoutout to my awesome babe Estee for bringing this awesome term my way!) and grow, make time for yourself ¬†to choose Your Word for 2016.

Choose a word that makes you curious, challenges you, and pushes you out of your comfort zone. Make it a word you can GROW with, that you would like to be a part of you. Make it a word you feel at rest and alive with.

Make it matter, because you do.

Love,

Mish.

It’s Only Fear

“You do not see that I see inside,
The quiet heart you’re trying to hide.

Don’t hold your head too high,
Don’t be afraid to cry,
Because you know my dear,
it’s only fear, it’s only fear.
…Keeps you locked in here.
Now you may believe you are so bright,
And you may not see how they confine your sight,
And maybe you wake up late at night,
Wondering why you feel so tired.
Well my dear, let me tell you now, do you hear,
It’s only fear, it’s only fear, it’s only fear,
…That keeps you locked in here.” – Alexi Murdoch, It’s Only Fear

Love after Love

“The time will come
when, with elation
you will greet yourself arriving
at your own door, in your own mirror,
and each will smile at the other’s welcome,
and say, sit here. Eat.
You will love again
the stranger who was yourself

Give wine. Give bread. Give back your heart
to itself, to the stranger who has loved you
all your life, whom you ignored
for another, who knows you by heart.
Take down the love letters from the bookshelf,
the photographs, the desperate notes,
peel your own image from the mirror.
Sit. Feast on your life.” –¬†Love after Love,¬†by Derek Walcott

Someone dear and close to my family has left us suddenly on Sunday. I only found out about it this evening. Depression has claimed yet another life too soon. I dedicate this poem, ‘Love after Love’ by Derek Walcott, to LC.

And this poem is also for the rest of us who have known pain, the quiet struggle behind closed doors, the thirst and hunger of the heart, the longing for Home, and the welcome to stay. Remember,

“You were created to love and be loved.
People need other people.
Your story is important.
Better days are ahead.
Hope and help are real.

You are not alone.
And this is not the end of your story.” – TWLOHA, www.twloha.com

Rediscover a Home within a home, where Love is, always.

Home is where the love is. But isn’t it just as true that home is where the pain is?

Do you remember a time when home was the last place you wanted to be?

Perhaps home was a source of love, but it was also a great source of pain–more than you know how to handle at that time. But NOW¬†in this present moment, where are you choosing to be?¬†

There is a proverb that says, “No matter where you go,¬†there you are.”

And wherever you are, you’ll find that your heart is always longing to go home. But where¬†exactly is¬†home¬†when we don’t¬†feel at home¬†right where we are?¬†There is a reason for this perpetual inner state of homelessness. Remember, it has nothing to do with anyone or anything¬†on¬†the external.

The answer lies within.

If we allow it, we will be led on a journey to find a Home away from home.¬†To a place of¬†deepest acceptance within, where our longing for belonging is received¬†and embraced. An everlasting Home that can never be touched, shaken or broken from the outside. It’s built on the inside.

But in¬†between the journey of leaving home to find our Home where the heart is, along the way, we become home sick.¬†In our desperate and in-born desire to feel at home again, we find ourselves impatient to get there. We find ourselves a little too eager to announce “we’ve arrived”.

We make a home¬†in the¬†temporal shelters of things, mistaking it for Home. ¬†As long as we try to feel at home through things of the external, instead of the Eternal within, this feeling of¬†“being home” will never last.

Home is where the Love is.

Love is where the Home is.

If you’re Lost, the¬†way Home is where your heart is, where¬†Love can be Found “in here”.

“In here”, there’s no need to perform or¬†inform to be seen and heard.

“In here”, we can curl up in the palm of God, and rest in the silent night of unknowing, finding calm, light, and peace in the midst of dark moments.

HomeIsWhereTheLovePainIs

“In here”, we regain the courage we need to face our own brokenness.

The reality of a broken home, a broken family, a broken marriage, broken hearts and broken relationship is messy. We can choose to runaway from facing our mess or we can choose to go Home, even if it looks like the aftermath of a warzone, because that’s where Love can be found. Our inner grounds of devastation can be the solid rock bottom on which we build a strong new foundation for our lives. Layer by layer, we can arise again, supported and grounded by the firm and steady pillars of Love.

No matter what happens “out there” or how far we’ve strayed¬†or where we are now, we can¬†rediscover a Home within a home, where Love is, always. To this Home, we can return to.¬†So let’s get¬†ready to come Home.

Love, Mish

Power of Intention: “Right Words, Right Thoughts, Right Action.”

If you could choose to set¬†the direction of your day before it happens the next day–would you set it? What would you choose? Our minds are like powerful sails that can take us in the direction we wish to go, if we clarify our intentions.

Here’s a fun song I just discovered, and right on theme! ūüėČ

Last night, before sleeping, I Googled “what time is sunrise in KL”. I got the info 6:58am (for 10 October, 2015).

Not wanting to miss the show, I set my alarm to ring at 6:40am, which is kinda crazy early considering the fact that I was still wide awake at 3am.

But right on cue, I got woken up. Not by the alarm, but by the sounds of soft, persistent knocking on a door. Did I forget to open the attached bathroom door? Was it really someone knocking? I kept listening. It stopped. I looked at the time. 6:38am. 2 minutes before the alarm rings!

This has happened to me many times. And it has happened to others as well. Setting a time to wake up the next day, finding your body awake, like clockwork, all on its own. Usually a few minutes before or right on time.

For me, this reminds me of the power of intention.

What we plan ahead to do intentionally, becomes our reality.
Our minds act on a thought, tuning our body into alignment.

Let’s be more conscious of our intentions throughout the day.

Given a choice, what do you intend to see more of in your day?
Every moment is a chance to choose and clarify your intentions.

Make it a good one. Let it happen. And if things don’t turn out quite the way you intended to, pay attention. Was this your intention?

Learn something,¬†then let it go…

Tomorrow, set another intention.
Take action. And watch it happen.

Echo of Love: “I Am a Better Person Because of You.”

Isn’t it amazing when the people who matter in your life,¬†say to you, “I am a better person because of you”?

Love is an echo.

I think Jason Mraz said it best in his ‘Love Someone’ song: “Love is a funny thing. Whenever I give it, it comes back to me. And it’s wonderful to be, giving with my whole heart, as my heart receives.”

I also love this¬†Chinese Proverb, “Life is like an echo. What you send out comes back.” It’s the same spiritual principle found in the Scriptures, “You reap what you sow.”

Today, as I was pondering¬†my recent loss when a friend and I decided to go our separate ways for now, my heart landed on one of the last words he said to me, “I am a better person because of you.”

Together, we learned that loving someone who don’t love themselves is like hugging a cactus. The closer you get, the more it hurts.

So he left. To learn Self-Love.

And I am free to do the same.

Meanwhile, his parting words are, “I am a better person because of you.”¬†

And he’s not the only one who’s been saying it. Melody said that. Annie said that. They are some of my bestest friends in the world. Coming from them, it’s like a miracle!

5 years ago, in the midst of a painful break-up, my ex said, “I’m not sure I can be a better person if I stay.”

He was right. But wow. How that has changed, without me realizing it.

I am not trying to impress anybody. I am not trying to be nice or trying to be good. I know my whole self well enough to know I am no saint. I’m just being me. And this is what they’re saying to me, about me, now.

Our world is a reflection of who we are. What I am hearing, is an echo of love.

How about you? What have you been hearing your loved ones say to you lately? If no one has expressed this to you yet, know that the statement¬†“I am a better person because of you” is something YOU can begin to say to YOURSELF. It is something You can choose to be. You can choose to be a better person, because of you–beginning with the better choices you are consciously choosing to make for your life.

“I am a better person because of you” is possible. You choose.

Keep Moving In The Direction Of Peace

What are you being called to Let Go of? What are you holding on to? Does it feel Peaceful? Will it bring Joy? Everyday is a chance to choose With Love.

Recently, I’m learning that Letting Go doesn’t have to be hard, painful or difficult.

When the decision to Let Go is made from a place of Love, what you’re left with in the end, is Love.

Sadness will still be there, and it’s a healthy sign. But beneath the rippling waves of change, all is well with your soul when it is anchored deeply and securely in Love, Joy and Peace.

As I’m writing this now, a familiar ache is making its presence felt. What is different about this, is the gentleness behind that aching. It’s not a monster of a pain. It’s not a bitter kind of sad. There’s a quietness to it that feels peaceful.

Loving Reminders for Today:

a: Keep moving in the direction of Peace

b. “Stay conscious of who you travel with on this journey. See who you’re attracted to and notice who is attracted to you. See how much better you feel when you surround yourself with the energy of love.” – Melody Beattie, Journey to the Heart: Daily Meditations on the Path to Freeing Your Soul
